Backlogs and Backpedaling

I have updated many unfinished blogs. Namely, our October trip to Niagara Falls.

In other news, I highly recommend that you watch 'Who Killed the Electric Car?' Its a great documentary about the genesis and genocide of what should be the next transportation milestone. On the heels of this, 'An Inconvenient Truth' is due out on DVD this Tuesday.

We will be buying our Toyota Prius as soon as we are financially able.

That is the quagmire. Prius is available now, gets 50+mpg. I have the AWD, and work 3 miles from home. So, I figure we would plan our tips better if we need the AWD vs. Hybrid. If Lisa needs the AWD (like on a snow day), I can get to work in the Prius.

On top of that, looks like Subaru will delay the hybrid until 2008. Do I wait that long, to buy a 1st-generation car? We are addicted to oil now.

However, if Subaru were to introduce a hybrid, the company's sales volume is so low (<1 mil) that the production costs would be high.

Bring in Toyota, with their 8% stake in Subaru (and current hybrid tech), Subaru would probably borrow the hybrid from Toyota, and package it into the AWD system. But a turbo w/ hybrid would overcome any shortcomings of a typical hybrid.

"2005 Tokyo Auto Show, Subaru shows the B5 TPH (turbo parallel hybrid) concept, a 3door hatchback using the 1st hybrid boxer engine. With a turbo parallel hybrid powertrain and 2.0L Miller cycle turbo engine, and expected to produce more than 300 hp. That would increase low end torque, improve fuel economy, and reduce emissions."
